BUDHHA

Bronze
Thailand, Ayutthaya Period, 18th Century
H 158 cm, 197 cm (with base)

Large, life size, lacquered in black and gilt, bronze sculpture of the Buddha standing on a substantial multi-tiered base, typical of the period. The Buddha is in “abhaiamudra” (posture of dispelling fear) and draped in a richly decorated monk’s robe, covering only one of his shoulders.
This is a monumental sculpture with the robe profusely decorated in a relief gild pattern, typical of the late Ayutthaya Period of the Kingdom of Siam.
