HEAD OF CHRIST Wood with polychromy Indo-Portuguese, 17/18th century H 34 cm Head of Christ from an articulated figure. Christ is portrayed with a long beard with curls and hair rendered by grooves. Articulated, dressed figures are a common feature in Eastern Christian churches and were used mainly in processions as they were lighter then srandard carved wood images. |
